「憶兒時」原詞曲作者是威廉.海斯（William Shakespeare Hays，1837-1907），他是美國肯塔基州人，是詩人與作曲家，學生時期就擅於寫詩，因此獲得"莎士比亞"的綽號。他一生創作超過350首歌曲，曲風多變廣泛，樂譜賣出高達20萬份，使他比其他同時代的作曲家更加名利雙收。1871年的My Dear Old Sunny Home(憶兒時)以及隔年的Molly Darling(靜夜星空)是最為人熟知的。
